Across Australia, around 56,000 women are homeless each night, many with young children. Women unable to access shelters are left vulnerable, disconnected from community and support networks.
Women’s Community Shelters is dedicated to providing women and children with a safe place to stay and an opportunity to rebuild their lives.
The Hunger Project works with women elected to their local councils (panchayats). Often from low socio-economic backgrounds, illiterate and uneducated, they are thrust into positions of power for the first time.
Through The Hunger Project's 5-year training program, these women leverage their new power and influence to question and defy entrenched social norms; transform gender relations, role model leadership for adolescent girls, promote girls’ education, prevent child marriage, and advocate for transformative change in their communities.
On the remote island of Rote, Indonesia, too many children under 5 years are stunted. Children who experience stunting face increased risk of mortality, disease and developmental delays.
Their lifelong productivity is significantly reduced. SurfAid is improving the nutritional status for more than 1,500 children across 12 villages, working alongside community health clinics to improve parents' understanding of malnutrition, increase their access to healthy food and change consumption patterns of mothers and children.
