The Hip Surfer has been used for every school pickup - much quicker than the pram, less strain on me and certainly less hot for bub and myself. As we were unable to take a pram into a dance performance seating area tonight, the Hip Surfer came to the rescue - making it easy to feed bub, comfy for me for walking in with her and whilst seated - she had the best seat in the house. What is the HipSurfer?
The HipSurfer is an ergonomic, doctor-approved hipseat baby carrier with built-in storage.
It sits around your waist and gives your child a supportive seat, while the wide padded waistband helps redistribute their weight away from your arms, shoulders and back. Seat for them. Relief for you. Essentials close by. Bit clever, really.
Do I still need to hold my child?
Yes. Keep one arm around your child at all times. The seat takes their weight, so your arm steadies them instead of holding them up.
How is the HipSurfer different from a traditional baby carrier?
Traditional carriers are brilliant for longer, fully strapped-in carries. The HipSurfer is different. It is built for the quick, repetitive carrying moments that happen all day long.
Toddler wants up. Toddler wants down. Baby needs soothing. Someone has suddenly lost the ability to walk through the carpark.
The HipSurfer has no shoulder straps, is on in 15 seconds once fitted, and gives you support without the full carrier setup.
I already have a carrier. Do I need this too?
They do different jobs. A carrier is great for long walks. The HipSurfer is for the quick, repeated carries: up, down, up again. It's on in 15 seconds with no straps to adjust.
How do I put it on?
Wrap the waistband around your waist with the seat on the side you want to carry, fasten it and pull it snug. Then sit your child on the seat and keep one arm around them.

What can I fit in the HipSurfer storage?
The HipSurfer has a zipped compartment under the seat, plus a side pocket and a bottle holder.

Can I sit down while wearing it?
It's designed for standing and walking slowly and carefully. Our safety manual says to use it only while standing still or walking, and never while driving, playing sport or in water.
Can I use it while cooking or cleaning?
No. Don't use the HipSurfer around heat, flames or chemicals, so not while cooking or cleaning with those around.

Will it fit me?
The HipSurfer fits AU sizes 8 to 18, which is a waist of 59 to 117cm. Measure your waist, not your hips.
Need more room? Add the colour-matched Waistband Extender.
Can my partner and I share one?
Yes. It adjusts quickly, so it's easy to pass between parents, grandparents and carers. If someone is outside the size range, the Waistband Extender gives extra length.

What age is the HipSurfer suitable for?
The HipSurfer supports different stages in different ways.
From birth, it can be used as feeding, rocking and settling support while your baby stays held securely against you. From around 4 months, once your baby has good head and neck control, they can sit on the seat facing in towards you. From 6 months, they can explore facing out. It holds up to 20 kg, into the 3+ carry years.
Can I use the HipSurfer with a newborn?
Yes, but not as a standard seated hip carry.
For newborns, the HipSurfer is used as extra support while breastfeeding, rocking, settling and holding your baby close. Newborns should always be supported safely, with their airway clear and their body held securely.
Can my baby face out on the HipSurfer?
Yes, from 6 months, once your baby has good head and neck control. Younger babies face in towards you.
When facing out, keep your child upright, supported and closely monitored. Tiny people have big opinions and very little balance. Rude but true.
What is the HipSurfer weight limit?
The HipSurfer is safety tested to support children up to 20 kg.
It is designed for babies, toddlers and young children through the carrying years, especially for those quick “up, down, up again” moments, travel days, daycare runs and tired-leg emergencies.
As always, follow the safety manual, keep an arm around your child at all times, and stop using the HipSurfer if your child feels too heavy to carry safely or comfortably.
Is a hip seat carrier safe for babies?
A hip seat carrier can be safe for babies when it is used correctly, at the right stage, and with proper adult support.
The HipSurfer is designed to provide a supportive seat and help redistribute your child’s weight. Always keep one arm around your child.

Does the HipSurfer help with back, shoulder or wrist pain?
The HipSurfer is designed to help reduce strain by redistributing your child’s weight through the wide padded waistband and supportive seat. It does not claim to cure pain or treat medical conditions, but it can make carrying feel more supported and less awkward.
If you are pregnant, recovering from birth, managing an injury, or dealing with a medical condition, check with your health practitioner first.
Can the HipSurfer help with wrist pain or mum thumb?
It may help reduce the strain that comes from constantly lifting and holding your child with your arms, hands and wrists.
Because the HipSurfer supports your child’s weight through the seat and waistband, your wrists are not doing the whole job alone.
If you have mum thumb, carpal tunnel, arthritis, wrist pain or another condition, get advice from your health practitioner first.
Is the HipSurfer good for grandparents?
Yes. Grandparents love a cuddle, but their backs are not always as enthusiastic.
The HipSurfer is quick to put on, easy to share between caregivers, and helps make carrying babies and toddlers more comfortable. It is especially useful for short carries, outings, holidays and the classic “Nanny, up!” moment.

Is the HipSurfer good for travel?
It's made for it. Airport queues, theme parks, zoos and long days out, when your child wants up but the pram is folded or forgotten.
The built-in storage holds your phone, cards and passports, so you carry one less bag.
Do I still need a pram?
For long walks and naps on the go, probably. For the stop-start bits, like the carpark, the shops or the school run, plenty of parents leave the pram at home.
Is there a travel bag for it?
Yes. The colour-matched Travel Bag keeps it clean in your luggage, and the Travel Change Mat folds flat beside it.

How much is shipping?
Australia: free standard shipping on orders over $200. UK: sent from our UK warehouse, tracked to your door. Everywhere else: tracked delivery, calculated at checkout.
What is the 30-Day Fit Check?
Try your HipSurfer at home, indoors, for 30 days from delivery. If it doesn't feel quite right, book a free 15-minute video fitting first, because most fit issues are a two-minute tweak.

How do I start a return?
Email hello@hackerlily.com within 30 days of delivery with your order number and whether you'd like a refund, exchange or store credit. Please contact us before sending anything back.
Once we've said yes, post it back within 14 days with the Returns Form, or a note with your order number and reason for return.
To be returned, your HipSurfer needs to be clean and unwashed, not worn outdoors, and packed with all its original packaging, tags, accessories and the Safety Manual.
Can I return a sale or Black Friday item?
Yes, for an exchange or store credit. Change-of-mind returns on sale, promotional and Black Friday items aren't refunded, but faulty items are always covered.
Anything ordered during our Black Friday sale can be returned until 31 January, so gifts are covered.
Who pays for return postage?
You arrange and pay for return postage, and we recommend tracked post. Exchanges are posted back to you free, and we cover postage on anything faulty.
