Bless you Hackerlilly! FTM here and did not anticipate the neck & shoulder pain that comes as an invited guest with a newborn. Only three months old and I was already trying to figure out ways to reduce the strain. Thank goodness the algorithms brought you into my feed, and I decided to bite the bullet & purchase. It is honestly one of the BEST baby purchases I have made. I wear it around the house to carry baby constantly, use it for feeding, and rocking to sleep. It’s also wonderful for quick stops into the shops when I don’t want to get the pram out or strap on my carrier. It takes one second to put on and off so makes it so much quicker to get baby in and out of the car.LeahVerified buyerHipSurfer, Moss + Tan Corduroy
I’ve been using the Hackerlily HipSurfer for about a year now and I can honestly say I’m obsessed with it. I genuinely feel like I couldn’t live without it anymore. My baby uses it almost every day and it has made my life so much easier. I use it for everything, quick errands, travelling, walks, and even daily school drop-offs and pick-ups with the kids. ... I also have tendonitis, and this HipSurfer has helped reduce the strain on my arms and back so much. It’s honestly been a lifesaver. I can even breastfeed my baby while walking when we’re sightseeing or out and about. ...Irene D.Verified buyerHipSurfer, Sand Vegan Leather

Honestly, the Hackerlily Hipsurfer has been such a lifesaver! It’s easily in my top 3 must have items for every parent. I use it every single day with both my 11-month-old and my 3-year-old, and it works brilliantly for both. Daycare drop-offs are no longer a juggling act, I just pop it on in 5 seconds (literally) I’m good to go. No more fighting with straps and clips like a traditional carrier. You feel so well supported around the lumbar region. Plus, the storage is amazing. I can throw in my phone, keys, and even a spare nappy and wipes without needing an extra bag. It’s one of those things I wish I had from day one of parenting. Total game changer and I can’t stop showing it off at all my mum-outings. Shipping was super fast too. Support local and support another mum who’s making a great impact in the baby industry!Moz W.Verified buyerHipSurfer Hip Carrier

I decided to buy the Hackerlily even though bub is only 5 weeks old. I trialled it at home before I had to breastfeed him in public for the first time yesterday and my gosh it's such a lifesaver! Aside from the fact that it'll save my back when carrying bub, I absolutely love how practical it is, from having a mobile nursing pillow when out and about to the ample storage space for the essentials. I don't always leave reviews but I had to for this one. Highly recommend. Thank you Laura and team!JenVerified buyerHipSurfer Hip Carrier

Bought on a whim after coming across an add on instagram. Omg! Why haven’t I found this earlier, with a little guy that seems to be growing fast and no longer being happy in other carriers, we had been carrying him more than our backs liked. It arrived quickly in time for a morning out for the older sibling at the museum. Little man loved it, he could see everything facing out, then flip around for a nap time snuggle all without making sibling stop and wait while I made any adjustments! And after carrying him around all morning there were no complaints from my back once we were home. Bring on more activities! It is most definitely coming everywhere with us!Chelsea T.Verified buyerHipSurfer Hip Carrier

I've been around the block with various carriers for my baby. It turns out he doesn't like feeling confined in traditional carriers and the Hackerlily HipSurfer was our solution! I had tried a knock-off brand hip seat first and we loved the concept, but it would dig in to my skin and hurt. I finally decided it was time to buy a Hackerlily and it was worth every dollar! So much more comfortable, no digging in, and my baby loves sitting on my hip and seeing the world from my eye level. As someone with a bad back, this hip seat is the solution I need to carry my baby around. I adore the moss green corduroy colour and the whole item just feels sturdy and of great quality. I especially love the toggle to help keep it secure and folded up! Highly recommend!Kim T.Verified buyerHipSurfer, Moss + Tan Corduroy

The Hip Surfer has been used for every school pickup - much quicker than the pram, less strain on me and certainly less hot for bub and myself. As we were unable to take a pram into a dance performance seating area tonight, the Hip Surfer came to the rescue - making it easy to feed bub, comfy for me for walking in with her and whilst seated - she had the best seat in the house. Handy storage meant didn't need to bring whole baby bag for the 3 hours, spots for keys and phone safely. Side note: the Velcro is fast and easy to adjust for sizing and positioning. Generally I'm a size 16-18 and didn't need the extension belt, where my partner (mens 2xl) prefers it. Can't recommend enough.BethVerified buyerHipSurfer, Black Vegan Leather

As a Mum of two boys of 2 years and 6 months, self care is hard to prioritise. I found my back was starting to feel the strain of the constant lifting and carrying of both my 6 month old and 2.5 year old and their clingy ways, but with the Hipsurfer it’s so easy to put myself first for a change and do something to literally support myself. It’s comfortable for my boys and the storage possibilities are awesome!!! Not to mention my back is feeling so supported! Thank you Hackerlily!Emily T.Verified buyerHipSurfer Hip Carrier

I honestly don't know what I did without my hipsurfer! It arrived Friday (1st may) and have used it multiple times everyday since! Life changing! My little girl isn't super heavy yet but it makes the world of difference already. Love love love it!JasmineVerified buyerHipSurfer, Purple + Teal

Hi, I'm Laura, mum of two and founder of Hackerlily. Carrying my babies with inflammatory arthritis and a sore back, traditional carriers were often too hot, too fiddly or too slow for the real up and down of the day.
After 18 months and 8 prototypes, the HipSurfer launched in 2023. I made the thing I desperately needed, then found out a lot of other parents needed it too.

A short, practical packing list for days out with a baby or toddler, for when the pram gets rejected and you'd rather carry less.
What is the HipSurfer?
The HipSurfer is an ergonomic, doctor-approved hipseat baby carrier and bum bag in one.
It sits around your waist and gives your child a supportive seat, while the wide padded waistband helps redistribute their weight away from your arms, shoulders and back. Seat for them. Relief for you. Essentials close by. Bit clever, really.
How is the HipSurfer different from a traditional baby carrier?
Traditional carriers are brilliant for longer, fully strapped-in carries. The HipSurfer is different. It is built for the quick, repetitive carrying moments that happen all day long.
Toddler wants up. Toddler wants down. Baby needs soothing. Someone has suddenly lost the ability to walk through the carpark.
The HipSurfer has no shoulder straps, takes around 15 seconds to put on once fitted, and gives you support without the full carrier setup.
What age is the HipSurfer suitable for?
The HipSurfer can support different stages in different ways.
For newborns, it can be used as feeding, rocking and soothing support while baby stays held securely against you. From around 4 to 6 months, babies can sit on the HipSurfer facing in towards you. From around 6 months, once they have stronger head and neck control, they can explore facing out
Can I use the HipSurfer with a newborn?
Yes, but not as a standard seated hip carry.
For newborns, the HipSurfer is used as extra support while breastfeeding, rocking, soothing and holding your baby close. Newborns should always be supported safely, with their airway clear and their body held securely.
What can I fit in the HipSurfer storage?
The HipSurfer has built-in storage under the seat, plus pockets and a bottle holder.
You can fit small everyday essentials like:
Not your entire life. Just the bits you somehow need every 3.5 minutes.
Is the HipSurfer Doctor Approved?
Yes. The HipSurfer is doctor-approved and recommended by health professionals including doctors, chiropractors, osteopaths, paediatric specialists and physiotherapists. It is designed to support more comfortable carrying and help reduce the strain of carrying babies and toddlers.
Can the HipSurfer help with wrist pain or mum thumb?
It may help reduce the strain that comes from constantly lifting and holding your child with your arms, hands and wrists.
Because the HipSurfer supports your child’s weight through the seat and waistband, your wrists are not doing the whole job alone.
If you have mum thumb, carpal tunnel, arthritis, wrist pain or another condition, get advice from your health practitioner first.
Does the HipSurfer help with back, shoulder or wrist pain?
The HipSurfer is designed to help reduce strain by redistributing your child’s weight through the wide padded waistband and supportive seat. It does not claim to cure pain or treat medical conditions, but it can make carrying feel more supported and less awkward.
If you are pregnant, recovering from birth, managing an injury, or dealing with a medical condition, check with your health practitioner first.
Is the HipSurfer good for grandparents?
Yes. Grandparents love a cuddle, but their backs are not always as enthusiastic.
The HipSurfer is quick to put on, easy to share between caregivers, and helps make carrying babies and toddlers more comfortable. It is especially useful for short carries, outings, holidays and the classic “Nanny, up!” moment.
Still adorable. Still heavy.
Can I return the HipSurfer if it does not feel right?
We offer returns on eligible full priced items within 30 days of delivery.
To be eligible, your item must be unused, in original condition, and returned with all original packaging, accessories and the Safety Manual.
You can trial your HipSurfer indoors to check the fit. Just do not wear it outdoors, wash it, damage it or tamper with it.

How do I start a return?
Always contact us first at hello@hackerlily.com before sending anything back.
Please include your order number, the item you want to return, the reason for return, and whether you would like a refund, exchange or store credit.

What age can a baby use a hip seat carrier?
For seated carrying, the HipSurfer is generally suitable from around 4 months, depending on your baby’s size, strength and head and neck control.
For younger babies, the HipSurfer can be used as a support tool for feeding, rocking, soothing and holding, while your baby remains fully supported by you.
Children under 6 months should face inwards unless breastfeeding.
Is a hip seat carrier safe for babies?
A hip seat carrier can be safe for babies when it is used correctly, at the right stage, and with proper adult support.
The HipSurfer is designed to provide a supportive seat and help redistribute your child’s weight. It is not a hands-free carrier, so your child must be held securely by you at all times.
Always read the safety manual before use, check the product before each carry, and make sure your child is upright, supported and closely monitored.
Can I use a hip seat carrier for a newborn?
Yes, but not in the same way you would carry an older baby or toddler.
For newborns, the HipSurfer can be used as extra support while feeding, rocking, soothing and holding your baby close. It helps take some pressure off your arms, shoulders and wrists during those long hold-feed-soothe stretches.
Newborns must always be fully supported by you, with their airway clear and their body safely positioned.
Can my baby face out on the HipSurfer?
Yes, once your baby has enough head and neck control.
Younger babies should face in towards you. Children under 6 months should face inwards unless breastfeeding.
When facing out, keep your child upright, supported and closely monitored. Tiny people have big opinions and very little balance. Rude but true.
What is the HipSurfer weight limit?
The HipSurfer is safety tested to support children up to 20 kg.
It is designed for babies, toddlers and young children through the carrying years, especially for those quick “up, down, up again” moments, travel days, daycare runs and tired-leg emergencies.
As always, follow the safety manual, keep an arm around your child at all times, and stop using the HipSurfer if your child feels too heavy to carry safely or comfortably.
